Albrecht Altdorfer, (born c. 1480—died Feb. 12, 1538, Regensburg [Germany]), German painter, printmaker, and draftsman who was one of the founders of landscape painting. Altdorfer spent most of his life in Regensburg, becoming a citizen in 1505 and in later years serving as official architect of the city and a member of its inner council.

Albrecht Altdorfer. The German painter, draftsman, printmaker, and architect Albrecht Altdorfer (ca. 1480-1538) contributed to the evolution of landscape painting. He was a major figure of the so-called Danube school, whose artists created a fantastic, picturesque style of land scape painting.

German painter, printmaker, draughtsman, and architect, active in Regensburg, of which town he was a citizen from 1505 onwards. Nothing is recorded of his training, but his early work was influenced by Cranach and he was also familiar with Dürer's woodcuts and engravings.
