Edwin Manteuffel, Freiherr von (ĕt´vēn frī´hĕr fən män´toifəl), 1809–85, Prussian field marshal. He served in the Danish War (1864) and was appointed Prussian governor in conquered Schleswig. In the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 he commanded brilliantly, and in the Franco-Prussian War (1870–71) he distinguished himself.

In the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 he commanded brilliantly, and in the Franco-Prussian War (1870–71) he likewise distinguished himself. Manteuffel commanded the German army of occupation in France (1871–73) and from 1879 until his death was governor of Alsace-Lorraine.
