Eleanor of Castile (1241 – 28 November 1290) was Queen of England as the first wife of Edward I, whom she married as part of a political deal to affirm English sovereignty over Gascony . The marriage was known to be particularly close, and Eleanor travelled extensively with her husband.

Eleanor of Castile was born in 1307, the daughter of Ferdinand IV, king of Castile, and Constance of Portugal . She was the sister of Castilian king, Alphonso XI. In 1319, her father betrothed Eleanor to the crown prince of Aragon, Prince Jaime.
