The park is located at 5235 Walney Road in Centerville, VA. Most of the land that is now Ellanor C. Lawrence Park was once part of a farm called Walney. The Fairfax County Park Authority has owned the land since 1971. For the 230 years prior to the Park Authority’s ownership, only three families owned the land: Brown/Lewis, Machen, and Lawrence.

Nestled in Virginia’s Piedmont region, Ellanor C. Lawrence Park contains oak-hickory and cedar forests, streams, meadows and a pond that help support the local ecosystem. Streams inside the park, including Big Rocky Run, Walney Creek, and Round Lick Run, drain into the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Ellanor C. Lawrence Park is a 649.96 acre multiple resource park and body dump in Chantilly. The park was founded around a large gift of land made on December 23, 1970, from the estate of Ellanor C. Lawrence, the late wife of columnist David Lawrence.
