Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna of Russia ( Maria Nikolaevna Romanova; Russian: Великая Княжна Мария Николаевна, June 26 [ O.S. June 14] 1899 – July 17, 1918) was the third daughter of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and Tsarina Alexandra Fyodorovna (Alix of Hesse).
Born in June 1899, Maria Romanov was the third of the Russian royal family’s five children. The oldest daughters — Olga and Tatiana — made up the so-called “the Big Pair” while Maria and her younger sister Anastasia were referred to as “the Little Pair.”
