Lake Fairfax park is a great recreation spot. There are fishing, camping, soccer fields and a cricket field, but to me the best part is the extensive web of trails through the forests. Mostly wild and not always well marked, it is a nice place for a couple of hours of adventure.
Lake Fairfax is a good family park, but it has nothing on Burke Lake. Okay I'll take some of that back, as the water park here is a lot of fun. It costs extra, but my big gripe here is the camping. When I visit the woods, I want to be in the woods, not a huge field surrounded by trees.

Lake Fairfax Park is a park in Reston, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA owned and maintained by the Fairfax County Park Authority. Contained within the park is the 18-acre (0.073 km 2) Lake Fairfax. The park also offers a waterpark, carousel, picnic areas, campgrounds, trails, playground and more.
The whole park is very large and beside the campground has athletic fields, cricket, equestrian and bike trials, hiking, a water park, boat rentals, a carousel and tons of picnic areas. It is clearly well-loved by locals.
