Lake Temescal is a small reservoir in the Oakland hills, in northeastern Oakland, California. It is the centerpiece of Temescal Regional Recreation Area, also known as Temescal Regional Park (and originally, Lake Temescal Regional Park). It is a part of the East Bay Regional Park District.

Located in the Temescal Regional Recreation Area, Lake Temescal has an accessible Beach House adjacent to the swim area which offers changing rooms and showers. Swimming is allowed without lifeguards. Swimming is generally prohibited November through March, because of poor water quality.
Temescal, Oakland View All Events History Originally constructed as a storage lake for drinking water, Temescal opened to the public in 1936 as one of the District's first three parks. The handsome stone building overlooking its lake was constructed in 1940 by Works Progress Administration crews.
Lake Temescal, overseen by the East Bay Regional Park District, is extremely clean with great views of the natural landscape, water, and overlooks the entire East Bay/Oakland Hills area once you hike up the hill-y trail. It's a good 2-3 mile hike that loops around one full circle.

Lake Temescal is truly an oasis, though located just next to a busy metropolis. When walking along the water’s edge, watch for birds like ducks, Canadian geese, cormorants, and kingfishers. In the spring, wild onions, lilies, and other flowers bloom along the west edge of the lake.
Lake Temescal in Oakland is a nearby recreation space that offers a nice escape from the city without going to farther locations such as Redwood Regional Park. Although it's a fairly small lake, it is still a nice place for a stroll around or a moment to sit and look at the lake.
