Mills and Northeastern Join for Global Impact. Mills College and Northeastern have merged to create a bicoastal university powered by Northeastern’s experiential learning and research, strengthened by Mills’ historic leadership in women's education and social justice.

Mills College at Northeastern is at the academic center of our 135-acre Oakland campus. The university offers degrees from the undergraduate through the doctoral level while carrying forward Mills’ focus on gender equity and social justice. Following months of in-depth discussions and consultation with key stakeholders, today the presidents of Northeastern University and Mills College announced that the two institutions have reached a definitive agreement to merge and establish Mills College at Northeastern University.

Mills College at Northeastern University is a private college in Oakland, California and part of Northeastern University 's global university system. Mills College was founded as the Young Ladies Seminary in 1852 in Benicia, California; it was relocated to Oakland in 1871 and became the first women's college west of the Rockies.

Students of Mills College at Northeastern will have access to the university’s breadth of experiential, lifelong learning, and student life opportunities. All alumnae of Mills will join Northeastern’s global network of graduates and be eligible for the benefits and opportunities available as members of the Northeastern family.
