It was erected for the Elector Palatine Charles Theodor and his wife, Countess Palatine Elisabeth Auguste of Sulzbach , by his garden and building director Nicolas de Pigage .

Benrath Palace and its park. The pleasure palace in the countryside. Twelve kilometres from the city's former gates, Elector Karl Theodor von der Pfalz had a maison de plaisance built by Nicolas de Pigage from 1756 to 1773 with generous gardens.
Nice castle on the outskirts of the town. Nov 2022. Benrath castle is small but very nice, with original preserved rooms and a picturesque garden around it. During Christmas time on weekends a little Christmas market is just in front of the castle.
