Marienplatz from Peterskirche. Located in the heart of Munich, St Peter's Church - Peterskirche in German - is the city's oldest Catholic church. While a church has been located here since the 8th century, the building itself dates back to the 12th century. It has been reconstructed numerous times following fires and wars over the past 800 years.
The almost 300-year-old Baroque high altar with a golden figure of St. Peter is one of Munich’s best-known ecclesiastical art treasures, and apart from that there’s a lot more to see and wonder at in this church. I, however, mainly went there to climb the tower right next to it! Currently, the Tower is open from noon to 4:30pm.
