Sign in to Hotmail or Outlook.com. Go to the Outlook.com sign-in page and select Sign in. Enter your email address or phone number and select Next. On the next page, enter your password and select Sign in.

Choose an export format which is compatible with whatever program you intend using to view the exported messages. If you intend to use the exported messages in a new installation of Windows Live Mail, in step 3 you should select 'Microsoft Windows Live Mail' as the export format.
