Zilker Park is known as the crown jewel of the Austin parks system. Zilker Metropolitan Park, located 2100 Barton Springs Road, is Austin’s oldest metropolitan park and is named after Andrew Jackson Zilker who donated parcels of land to the city starting in 1917. Mr. Zilker came to Austin in 1876 to become a business man and a banker.

Located just south of downtown Austin, Zilker Park stretches across 350 acres of rolling hills. Barton Springs Pool, sometimes referred to as the “soul of the city,” lies at the center of the park. The rest of the park is a mix of open space and minimally developed land crisscrossed by hike-and-bike trails.
