BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —. A.H. Parker High School was founded in 1900 and became the first public high school for Blacks in Birmingham, Alabama. The school was originally called Negro High School but was later renamed in honor of former principal Arthur Harold Parker. It opened its doors in the Smithfield community with just 19 students.
