Founded in the first decade of the 20th century and incorporated in 1907, [2] the city has become notable for its World War II -era prisoner-of-war camp, Camp Aliceville .

Background: Aliceville Reservoir, sometimes called Pickensville Lake by local anglers, is an 8,300-acre reservoir located approximately 12 miles northwest of the City of Aliceville in Pickens County.
