Auguste Comte, in full Isidore-Auguste-Marie-François-Xavier Comte, (born January 19, 1798, Montpellier, France—died September 5, 1857, Paris), French philosopher known as the founder of sociology and of positivism. Comte gave the science of sociology its name and established the new subject in a systematic fashion.
Isidore Marie Auguste François Xavier Comte ( French: [oˈɡyst kɔ̃t] ( listen); 19 January 1798 – 5 September 1857)  was a French philosopher, mathematician, and writer who formulated the doctrine of positivism. Auguste Comte (1798–1857) is the founder of positivism, a philosophical and political movement which enjoyed a very wide diffusion in the second half of the nineteenth century. It sank into an almost complete oblivion during the twentieth, when it was eclipsed by neopositivism.
