Barbara Liskov, née Barbara Jane Huberman, was born on November 7, 1939, in California. She earned her BA in mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley in 1961. Rather than go directly to graduate school, she took a job at the Mitre Corporation where she learned that she was a natural at computer programming.
