As we prepare to enter another school year, as always, it is with great honor, humbleness and dignity for me to serve as the proud 10th principal of the illustrious and historic Booker T. Washington High School and the High School for the Engineering Professions (BTWHS/HSEP). This great institution of learning has enhanced the lives of many young men and women for over 130 years.

In order to offer our teachers and staff regular opportunities for professional development, the school district has scheduled three early release dates for students during the 2022-2023 school year. The third of these three scheduled dates will occur on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. The school day will begin at its regularly scheduled time, but students will be dismissed from school at 1:20 p.m.
Booker T. Washington Vision For The Future. In December 2019, the City of Norfolk School Board passed a resolution to provide funding and guidance to shape the future of the historic Booker T. Washington High School. The School Board seeks “to ensure that Booker T. Washington High School has a vibrant and competitive Academy that will retain and attract a diverse group of students from across the city.”.
Booker T. Washington High School accepts approximately 350 freshmen each year. Upperclassmen may apply, but only a limited number of spaces are available. Applications will be available beginning January 4, and families will be notified by the first week of April of acceptance decisions. Click here for more information.

Booker T. Washington is a world-class high school in the heart of America. In 2009 and 2016 the school received the coveted distinction of being a Blue Ribbon School recognized by the United States government for being academically superior. Our school is ranked as one of the top high schools in the U.S. Founded in 1913 to serve the citizens of the African-American community, Booker T. Washington was chosen in 1973 to be the vehicle for Tulsa's school desegregation program.

Booker T. Washington HS is pleased to welcome Mr. William C. Wade, as principal! Mr. William Wade is highly motivated and has a vast educational background. He specializes in the development and empowerment of administrations and student bodies. He planned and implemented the first high school turnaround model, The Promise Academy, in The School District of Philadelphia.
