Devlin co-founded Instructure in 2008 with Brian Whitmer. Devlin earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science from Brigham Young University. It turns out that both founders have made changes as Brian Whitmer, the other company co-founder, left his operational role in 2014 but is still on the board of directors.

Fun fact: Canvas was developed by BYU graduate students Brian Whitmer and Devlin Daley in collaboration with their grad school professor Josh Coates (first CEO of Canvas). Canvas Instances at BYU Canvas is installed and managed as individual instances, each of which contains its own set of users, library of courses, and settings.
