Carlton Ernest Fisk (born December 26, 1947), nicknamed "Pudge" and "The Commander", is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher from 1969 to 1993 for the Boston Red Sox (1969, 1971–1980) and Chicago White Sox (1981–1993).

Carlton Fisk’s baseball career almost came to an end at Waterloo, Iowa, Boston’s entry-level team in the Class-A Midwest League. Despite batting .338 with 12 home runs in 62 games in 1968, he was despondent. Pudge’s letters home revealed that the source of most of his frustration was the team’s losing record.
Through his 24 seasons in the Majors, a record for catchers, Fisk gave other receivers goals to pursue by establishing two significant career marks for his position: catching in 2,226 games and hitting 351 homers as a backstop. Fisk hit his 328th homer to pass Johnny Bench on Aug. 17, 1990; Mike Piazza surpassed Fisk on May 5, 2004.
