Our history. CommonSpirit was created by the combination of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health as a single ministry in early 2019. Today, we continue to build on that foundation of compassion as we care for the common good.

Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) was a national Catholic healthcare system, with headquarters in Englewood, Colorado. CHI was a nonprofit , faith-based health system formed, in 1996, through the consolidation of three Catholic health systems.

CHI Health is a regional network with a unified mission: nurturing the health ministry of the Church while creating healthier communities.
