Charles Le Brun, (born Feb. 24, 1619, Paris, France—died Feb. 12, 1690, Paris), painter and designer who became the arbiter of artistic production in France during the last half of the 17th century.

First Painter to the King 1619-1690. The famous decorator of Versailles and Vaux-le-Vicomte, Le Brun produced a large number of works which have established his reputation as a true genius of the 17th century. An artistic prodigy, Le Brun entered the service of king Louis XIV in 1647 as “Painter and Valet de Chambre”.
