David Dana "Dave" Clark (born April 7, 1944) is an American computer scientist and Internet pioneer who has been involved with Internet developments since the mid-1970s. Biography. David Dana Clark has pioneered the development of the internet since the 1970s. This computer scientist received the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal in 1998 "for leadership and major contributions to the architecture of the Internet as a universal information medium." Clark was born on April 7, 1944 and received his bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College in 1966.

David Dana Clark (born April 7, 1944) is an American computer scientist. From 1981 to 1989, he acted as chief protocol architect in the development of the Internet, and chaired the Internet Activities Board, which later became the Internet Architecture Board. He has also served as chairman of the Computer Sciences and Telecommunications Board of the National Research Council.
In this book, MIT computer scientist David Clark explains how the Internet is actually put together, what requirements it was designed to meet, and why different design decisions would create different internets. He does not take today's Internet as a given but tries to learn from it, and from alternative proposals for what an internet might be, in order to draw some general conclusions about network architecture.
He previously served as CEO of Mercy Health System in Philadelphia, president of Methodist Dallas Medical Center, and regional VP and CEO for Intermountain Healthcare in Utah Valley. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from BYU and an MBA in health organization management from Texas Tech University. David and Dodie have four children.
Dr. David Clarke is President of the Psychophysiologic Disorders Association (EndChronicPain.org) and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology Emeritus and Assistant Director of the Center for Ethics both at Oregon Health & Science University. He is a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University and at the Cummings Graduate Institute.
