Edmund S. Muskie was the author of the autobiographical Journeys, published in 1972, and received more than 30 honorary degrees from colleges and universities throughout the country. He died on March 26, 1996, in Washington, D.C. and a memorial service was held at the Bates Chapel, April 28, 1996.
