General Shinseki assumed duties as the 34th Chief of Staff, United States Army, on 22 June 1999. General Shinseki graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He also holds a Master of Arts Degree in English Literature from Duke University.
