Forrest “Fuzzy” Raffel was born on May 14, 1922, to Jacob and Ann Raffel. His younger brother, Leroy, was born on March 13, 1927. Both brothers served in the military during World War II (Forrest in the Air Force and Leroy in the Naval Reserve). Forrest graduated from Cornell University’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration.

On September 19, 2008 the Florida newspapers announced the death of Forrest B. Raffel, Co-founder of Arby’s. He died at the age of 86. His obituary stated that he was to roast beef what Colonel Harlan Sanders was to chicken. Forrest was survived by his wife, Gloria, who he married in 1964, a brother, three daughters and three stepchildren.
