(1856–1918) Georgii Valentinovich Plekhanov, the Russian Marxist, revolutionary, philosopher, sociologist, and historian of social thought, was the son of a poor nobleman. After graduating from a military academy in Voronezh, he studied at the Mining Institute in St. Petersburg.
Plekhanov was a Russian revolutionary and social philosopher who launched a destructive critique of populism and laid the ideological basis of Russian Marxism. He was often called the \"Father of Russian Marxism\" and a leader of the Second International. He died in 1918 after the October Revolution.
