James William Plunkett (born December 5, 1947) is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for sixteen seasons. He achieved his greatest professional success during his final eight seasons with the Raiders franchise, whom he led to two Super Bowl titles. 
James William Plunkett was born on December 5, 1947 in San Jose, California. His upbringing was difficult as both his parents, William and Carmen, were blind. William Plunkett ran a newsstand in San Jose, but struggled to care for his wife and three kids. As Plunkett got older, he would find odd jobs to help the family.
