Maleren Martinus Rørbye (1803-1848) var en af de centrale skikkelser i den danske guldalder i første halvdel af 1800-tallet. Den rejselystne Rørbye besøgte Samsø flere gange. Hans svoger var pastor Fasting i Besser, og under besøgene boede Rørbye-familien i Besser Præstegård.
