Mike Munchak was the eighth player overall and the first offensive lineman chosen in the 1982 National Football League Draft. Selected by the Houston Oilers, the former Penn State standout was an immediate success with the Oilers, earning the starting left guard spot in his first training camp.

Munchak, who was born on March 5, 1960, in Scranton, PA, attended Central High School, where he lettered in basketball, track, and football. Recruited by Penn State as a defensive tackle, the high school All-America was converted to an offensive guard after his freshman year.

Munchak, who made nine Pro Bowls during his 12-year career with the Houston Oilers from 1982-93, was considered one of the best line coaches in the NFL before ascending to head coach in 2011.

Michael Anthony Munchak is an American professional football coach and former player in the National Football League . After playing college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions, Munchak played left guard for the Houston Oilers from 1982 until 1993 and was a nine-time selection to the Pro Bowl. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
