A power outage hit 4,246 households and forced shops to close in Harrogate this morning. The outage affected homes around Otley Road and Leeds Road, as well as businesses in the Oatlands and Harlow Hill areas. While Northern Powergrid said it only lasted for 10 minutes, customers reported problems for around half an hour from 10am onwards.
Northern Powergrid said 40 properties have been affected by a power cut in Hovingham. It said the cut was causeed by an unexpected problem with cables or equipment serving the area, and it estimated supplies would be restored by about 5.30pm. Meanwhile, another power cut has hit York. Northern Powergrid said 150 premises were affected in streets in the Leeman Road area including Carnot Street, Roseberry Street and Swinerton Avenue.
A deficit of monthly heating degree days of between 20 and 50 is forecast across the regions. Energy costs with respect to heating may also be a little higher than average in these areas of the country. In contrast, slightly below normal temperatures are predicated from the northern Plains westward to the Pacific Northwest.
