Parkway West is the only high school in Philadelphia with an Early Childhood Education CTE Program. The purpose of the program is to introduce the students to the field of early childhood education through a newly designed curriculum beginning in the ninth grade. The students also participate in internships for real-life experience.

Parkway West High School (PWHS) was the second high school built in the Parkway School District; it opened in fall 1968 with grades 10-12. In the 1969–1970 school year, Parkway West Junior High was formed and grades 7-9 were housed in the West Senior building, operating on the same schedule as West Senior.

The mission of Parkway West Career and Technology Center, a student centered school, is to prepare students with skills to excel in future careers by ensuring rigorous and relevant learning, reacting to industry needs, cultivating positive relationships with partner schools, providing quality instructors, achieving stakeholder commitment, and securing needed resources.

Parkway School Board candidate filing begins Tuesday, Dec. 6. Three director positions are open on the Parkway Board of Education, each for a three-year term, in the April 4, 2023 election.
