Robert Nozick (New York, 16 november 1938 – Cambridge (Massachusetts), 23 januari 2002) was een Joods-Amerikaans filosoof en Joseph Pellegrino University Professor aan Harvard-universiteit. The entitlement theory of justice of Robert Nozick. Nozick’s vision of legitimate state power thus contrasts markedly with that of Rawls and his followers. Rawls argues that the state should have whatever powers are necessary to ensure that those citizens who are least well-off are as well-off as they can be (though these powers must be consistent with a variety of basic rights and freedoms).
Robert Nozick advanced this version of libertarianism (Nozick 1974), and is its best known contemporary advocate. Nozick proposes a 3-part “Entitlement Theory”. If the world were wholly just, the following definition would exhaustively cover the subject of justice in holdings:
Nozick's assertion of a value rational human right to pursue individual utility resulted in the same double paradox as Rawls’s institution of justice as fairness. Consider the view, made famous (or infamous) by Robert Nozick (1974), that people have a right against being forced to assist others, except as a result of their agreement or wrongdoing. Such a view rules out redistributive taxation aimed at reducing material inequality or raising the standards of living for the poor.
Nozick's going to say no, think about what would happen, knowing what we know about people and knowing what we know about various things, importantly, he's going to say knowing what we know about power. so, it's a hypothetical account with some differences from Rawls'. It's an invisible hand account.
