Rowan County is a county in the U.S. state of North Carolina that was formed in 1753, as part of the British Province of North Carolina. It was originally a vast territory with unlimited western boundaries, but its size was reduced to 524 sq mi after several counties were formed from Rowan County in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Rowan County was the result of the petition, and at the time of its incorporation, the county was named in honor of the governor of North Carolina, Matthew Rowan.
CLEVELAND, NORTH CAROLINA — A massive fire broke out Friday evening at Daimler Trucks North America in Cleveland, North Carolina. Rowan County Red Cross Disaster Services tells WCCB the fire is under control and most companies have cleared the scene. No injuries have been reported. The cause is still under investigation.
