About Us. The Sacramento History Museum sits on the traditional territory and ancestral homelands of the Nisenan Tribal people. The Sacramento Valley was, and still is, land that has been inhabited for thousands of years since time immemorial by the Nisenan, Miwok, Patwin, and Maidu people.

Sacramento History Museum is the only museum devoted to Sacramento, California and California Gold Rush history. It is located at 101 I Street in Old Sacramento . Just west of the museum is the Sacramento River and both the Tower Bridge and the I Street Bridge are visible from the museum.

History comes alive in our galleries, where visitors will explore Sacramento City and County and the stories of the people who lived here. Exhibits at the Sacramento History Museum feature historical images, artifacts, and unique interactive elements.

The Sacramento History Museum in Old Sacramento is the primary exhibition venue for the CSH museum collection. Other temporary exhibitions are located at the Sacramento International Airport, City Hall, and Offices of the City Clerk and Mayor. CSH is open for research by appointment only.
