COSI's History. The original idea for COSI was born during a business trip to Chicago in 1957 by Sanford N. (Sandy) Hallock ll, who worked as an account executive for the Byer and Bowman advertising agency. While there, he visited the Museum of Science and Industry which he had visited as a boy with this father.

SANFORD N. HALLOCK II (1922-1983) Sanford N. (Sandy) Hallock II, executive director of the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), Columbus, died 2 January 1983 at his home in Worthington. Mr. Hallock began work on plans for COSI in 1957 and was named its executive director in 1963. The museum opened to the public in 1964.
