Vodafone has become the first operator in Germany to begin 5G expansion into rural areas using dynamic spectrum sharing. The technology enables Vodafone antennas to share 700 Megahertz (MHz) spectrum between 4G and 5G services depending on which smartphone the customer is using.

The telco kicked off the rollout of its 5G network in a limited number of cities across Germany at the beginning of July 2019. Meanwhile, Vodafone Germany said its 5G network is already providing coverage to 65 million people across the country, representing nearly 80% of Germany’s population.

Vodafone Germany reached 45 million people with its 5G network, marking a milestone in its evolution to a more digital future. Vodafone has built over 18,000 antennas in 6,000 locations, is equipped with 5G technology in rural and urban areas, and is working hard to expand its capacity to provide customers with fast mobile internet speeds.

Vodafone said that its 5G Standalone network is currently available to nearly 20 million people across Germany. Vodafone Germany said its 5G network is already providing coverage to 60 million people across the country. In a release, the telco said it has already deployed a total of 41,000 5G base stations nationwide.

Vodafone Germany said its 5G network is already providing coverage to 65 million people across the country, representing nearly 80% of Germany’s population. Since the beginning of the year, Vodafone technicians have commissioned 5,450 5G sites with more than 16,000 additional antennas.

Vodafone Germany ("Vodafone") today announced a next-generation network access agreement with Deutsche Telekom ("DT") which will allow Vodafone to offer high-speed fixed-line broadband and internet protocol-based TV ("IPTV") services across Germany.
