First Night. Since 1976, Boston’s First Night has been a New Year’s Eve celebration of artistic performances, the wonders of the season, and the beginning of a new year. In keeping with this fantastic Boston tradition, the First Night celebration will open 2024 with an array of performances.

First Night Boston, New England’s largest New Year’s Eve party, returns this year to celebrate the start of 2022. After a solely online celebration last year, First Night will gather in-person throughout the Back Bay for hours of entertainment, ice sculptures, a parade and fireworks.
The free, family friendly event runs from 12 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, through 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, and features a wide range of local musicians, artists and performers. The city announced Thursday that vaccinations and COVID-19 tests will also be made available at the event.
First Night events include live music and dance performances, a fireworks display over the Boston Harbor and an ice sculpture display. A full schedule of events can be found at firstnightboston.org.
