Courts may keep official records about cases in paper or electronic format. There are three ways to look at court records: Go to the courthouse and ask to look at paper records. Go to the courthouse and look at electronic court records. If your court offers it, look at electronic records over the internet. This is called “remote access.”

Information You Need to Find a Court Record Online. You can locate a case if you know: The name of a party associated with the case, or. The case number, or. The District Attorney (DA) case number. Be aware: Civil Limited and Misdemeanor Records may be available only for 10 years for some court locations. Juvenile cases are not included in this index.

Effective January 1, 2010, rule 10.500 of the California Rules of Court set forth comprehensive public access provisions applicable to judicial administrative records maintained by state trial and appellate courts, the state Supreme Court, as well as the Judicial Council of California (the Council). The Council makes identifiable judicial administrative records available to receive and/or for inspection upon request unless the records are exempt from disclosure.
