Use Messages for web to send SMS, MMS and chat messages from your computer. Open the Messages app on your Android phone to get started.
Once I do that, it will work as it's supposed to. It does conflict with Google notifier set up on a different account, however, and doesn't handle multiple accounts well. I would like to see this cope with multiple signins, (i.e. Google apps work account versus Gmail). This also needs to be updated to handle the new inbox changes.

To turn “Read” status off with the Google Maps app: On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app . From the "Updates" tab, tap More Manage messages Messages. If you have multiple profiles, open the one you want to manage. Turn off Read receipts.
Outlook: Go to your Accounts, click Advanced Leave a copy of messages on the server. Apple Mail: On the "Advanced" tab, uncheck the box next to "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message," if available. Thunderbird: On the "Server Settings" tab, check the box next to "Leave messages on server."
