From any mail folder, such as your inbox, select View > Show as Conversations to toggle Conversation view on or off. Select All mailboxes or This folder. Conversations that include multiple messages are identified in the message list by a triangular expand/collapse icon .

Inbox 2 line message preview. In my Windows outlook, I can look at my inbox and see the emails with subject and I have a second line that has the beginning of the message. I can not find this in Outlook 2011 for Mac. In Outlook 2010 and 2003 the setting is to use compact layout. Thanks!
