There are certain categories of persons who may be excused from service as a juror. If you are a person in one of the categories listed below and wish to be excused, please complete the questionnaires and check the appropriate box under Grounds for Requesting an Excuse. Or, if you wish to serve, click that you are not requesting an excuse.

Request for Excuse California Rules of Court, rule 2.1008, specifies the grounds on which the Jury Commissioner's Office is allowed to excuse prospective jurors from jury service. It states, "Jury service, unless excused by law, is a responsibility of citizenship". Postponing one's jury service is preferred to excusing a prospective juror.

Juror candidates can be excused from this obligation only if there is a showing of undue hardship. All candidates currently have the opportunity postpone their jury duty start date twice, up to a year each time. If it is reasonably assumed that the current hardship can be resolved by rescheduling, the request to be excused will not be granted.

Exemption Forms Exemption forms are located on ejury.gwinnettcounty.com Once the exemption form is completed and notarized, you can email the form by scanning it (pdf format) or by taking picture and e-mailing it to: jurorinfo@gwinnettcounty.com. The notary stamp must be visible. Postponements Jurors can request an one-time postponement.

You may return the form by mail or fax to the jury assembly room listed on your summons. You may also upload the form by logging on to the Juror Web Portal. Excuses will be valid for 12 months. People summoned for federal jury duty may also request exemptions under the Jury Act. This requires filing a written request with the court clerk citing “undue hardship or extreme inconvenience.” This request must explain the reasoning behind the hardship. Keep in mind that not all requests are granted.
