Geography[change | change source] The U.S. Census Bureau says that the county has an area of 4,751 square miles (12,310 km 2 ). Of that, 4,058 square miles (10,510 km 2) is land and 693 square miles (1,790 km 2) (15%) is water.  Los Angeles County includes San Clemente Island and Santa Catalina Island.
It encompasses five counties in Southern California extending from Ventura County in the west to San Bernardino County and Riverside County in the east, with Los Angeles County in the center, and Orange County to the southeast.
